Biggest upsets in MMA history. Biggest underdog wins. Biggest betting upsets. Zac Riley vs Hugo Viana RFA 34.

Zac Riley (+1000) upsets Hugo Viana (-2000)

Unanimous decision, Round 3

RFA 34: Velickovic vs Smith — 1/15/16

Hugo Viana was has just been released from his UFC contract after mixed results despite being an exciting fighter liked by fans. His first fight outside of the promotion was thought to be an easy rebound against Zac Riley, who was an unknown fighter with a 3-3 record. As such, Viana entered the bout as a massive 20-1 favorite.

The odds were not even close to indicative of what would transpire what the cage door was locked. This was not a simple case of a lucky punch or fluke stoppage. Instead, Riley bloodied and battered “Wolverine” over the course of three rounds en route to a clear decision.

Round one saw Zac use effective forward pressure and superior accuracy to pick apart and hurt Viana on the feet. The aggressive striking attack also opened up a chasm of a cut right between Hugo’s eyes. Round two had a slower pace and was more competitive, but there were no momentum shift as round three was once again once sided for Riley’s volume striking. Viana landed some good licks of his own throughout the contest, but Zac landed many more strikes and the harder ones as well.

Once the 15 minute bout was over, the only question remaining was whether spectators would witness one of the biggest upsets in MMA history or one of the biggest robberies. Thankfully, the judges did their job and rendered a unanimous decision verdict for the no longer unknown Zac Riley.
